Fighting fires in the Alaskan Interior is different than in the lower 48. The Alaska Fire Service (AFS) branch of the Bureau of Land Management provides wildfire suppression on Alaska Native corporation lands, including Doyon lands. Assigned protection levels aid the AFS in prioritizing fire suppression activities during each fire season; updated as desired protection levels change over time, this information is kept by AFS in a map atlas at the Fort Wainwright offices. Doyon is also a contact for fire suppression planning.
Individual landowners are responsible for ensuring that the AFS is aware of their fire management needs and desires. If you’re a landowner, download a PDF of the Alaska Interagency Wildland Fire Management Plan at fire.ak.blm.gov to make sure your land is adequately protected
