June 2010 Shareholder Survey Results
As reported in the June newsletter, a survey was requested by the Board of Directors to ask shareholders their opinion regarding whether to continue with a board–recommended candidate list (board-endorsed slate). This is not the first time the Board has addressed the issue. In 1995, Doyon held a shareholder advisory vote on the board endorsed slate. Of those who voted at the special meeting of shareholders, 59.3 percent voted in favor of continuing to have a board-recommended candidate list.
The June 2010 survey was conducted in two parts.
Part One: Mailed Survey
The first part was a mailed survey to a randomly selected representative sample of 1,200 shareholders who voted in at least one of the last three Doyon elections.
The shareholders who were sent the mailed survey received background information on the board-recommended slate including the history and the pros and cons of the slate. Approximately 41 percent of the first group returned their completed surveys. Of those who participated in the first survey, 59 percent indicated that they support practice of a board-recommended candidate list.
Part Two: Phone Survey
The second part of the survey was made to a smaller, randomly selected group of shareholders (100) from an overall list of Doyon shareholders 18 years of age or older and eligible to vote in Doyon elections. It was conducted by telephone.
Shareholders who participated in this survey did not receive the background information on the slate. Of those who were surveyed, 70 percent indicated that they support the use of a board-recommended candidate list.
