About Daaga’ Awards

Daaga’ represents the unified efforts of Native leaders to promote drug- and alcohol-free communities. Since the awards were started in 1990, Doyon has awarded more than $100,000 to individuals and organizations whose focus is on the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse.

Daaga’ encompasses the following beliefs:

• The source of healing lies in the ability of local people to help themselves.
• We should utilize the strength of our traditional values to focus on a healthy vision of the future.
• We should work together to promote programs that integrate the spiritual, social and economic needs of our people.
