BLM Public Comment Period Extended to June 9th
The Bureau of Land Management’s Central Yukon Draft Resource Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement (RMP/EIS) 90-day public comment period was extended an additional 90 days, moving the deadline for public comments from March 11th to June 9th.
This RMP/EIS will decide how the BLM will manage about 13 million acres of public lands for the next 20 to 30 years. Most of these lands are located within the boundaries of the Doyon Region. Proposed land management under this plan is expected to have major impacts on local land use and this is the last opportunity for community involvement in its development.
The Lands and Natural Resources Department has held two webinars discussing the various impacts to local communities they have identified in the plan. Shareholders can listen to the latest webinar on the Doyon Podcast. They have also met with several village corporations to assist them in developing their public comments.
