HR/Shareholder Outreach Update: Doyon Accounting Career Pathway
Shareholder hire and retention is a priority in the Doyon, Limited accounting department, as it is for all departments at Doyon. This article is intended to introduce shareholders to the accounting department and provide information on opportunities for shareholders interested in an accounting career at Doyon.
What does the accounting department do?
The Doyon accounting department is responsible for ensuring payments are made to Doyon shareholders, employees and vendors. The department provides accounting and reporting support for Doyon oil and gas exploration efforts. They are also responsible for providing Doyon management and the board of directors with the budgetary and financial information necessary to enable timely, informed business decisions, while maximizing cost savings for the Doyon Family of Companies.
What types of positions are available?
The variety of positions in the accounting department ranges from entry-level to executive. Positions such as the accounting administrative assistant and accounts payable clerk are training positions. Each year, Doyon also offers a summer internship position to shareholders interested in an accounting career. Interested shareholders are encouraged to apply for these positions when open. All current job openings are posted on the Doyon website.
What skills do I need?
Important skills to have in any accounting position at Doyon include attention to detail, being numbers focused, and having strong analytical and decision-making skills. It’s also important to be organized and a good planner. Time management, critical thinking and problem-solving skills are all highly valued in the accounting department, in addition to leadership and dependability.
What are the educational requirements?
Individuals in senior positions in the department typically have completed college-level courses and/or have degrees in accounting or a similar field. Holding professional certifications or licenses, such as accounts payable certification, Certified Payroll Professional, or Certified Public Accountant, is highly desirable and encouraged.
