Message to Shareholders
Welcome to summer! I hope this message finds you well as you prepare or are in the middle of your summer activities. For myself, I look forward to this time of year, especially being able to get out in the boat and travel the beautiful Yukon River.
Speaking of the Yukon River, I will be in Nulato for the Denakkanaaga Elders and Youth Conference. Doyon will host a Dialogue with Doyon meeting on Tuesday, June 4 during the lunch hour. We decided to hold the meeting earlier than usual because of the dedication of the Denakkanaaga meeting to the late Poldine Carlo. As many of you know, Poldine was not only a shareholder, but she was also a friend and mentor to many people. The board of directors decided it was important for Doyon to be a part of the celebration honoring this great pioneer. We miss her presence and guidance at our quarterly board meetings.
In other news, my brother Ethan and I had the privilege of serving as keynote speakers at this year’s Doyon Foundation graduation ceremony on May 10 in Fairbanks. Every year, I am impressed with the caliber of students graduating with certificates, associates, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from universities and colleges all across the country. Doyon Foundation is certainly helping shareholders achieve their dreams and goals through the increasing number of scholarships that are awarded each year. Doyon, Limited is very proud to be a major contributor to the Foundation, helping to support all the incredible work they continue to do for education and language preservation.
In support of the Foundation’s Morris Thompson memorial scholarship, Doyon has been actively working with the Foundation on planning for the 19th annual Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic that will take place on June 13 and 14 in Fairbanks at the Chena Bend Golf Course. Over the past 19 years, the Foundation has awarded 202 Morris Thompson memorial scholarships totaling $479,180. It is an incredible amount raised for scholarships. It is also a testament to the dedication of the many sponsors that come back year after year to support this worthwhile program, including the Doyon Family of Companies, Key Bank and Key Equipment Finance, Alaska Airlines, Inc., CIRI, Calista Corporation, Flowline Alaska, Inc., Wells Fargo and ConocoPhillips. Each year, the tournament sells out, but there are always opportunities to volunteer. Please contact Doyon administration at 1-888-478-4755 or 907-459-2000 for more information.
In closing, I hope you have a long and fruitful summer. Thank you for your continued support of our employees.
