Message to Shareholders
I hope your summer is going well! I always enjoy fishing on the Yukon River, and this year I was able to take time to fish in the Nushagak River in the Bristol Bay region. We thank our friends and neighbors at Bristol Bay Native Corporation for hosting me in their region.
Doyon has been actively engaged this summer in tracking the fires across our region and working with the Alaska Fire Service, which protects our lands and the communities in our region. We have had over 400 fires in our region this summer to date, causing smoke and poor air quality across the Interior. Villages including Beaver, Rampart, Fort Yukon, Chalkyitsik, Koyukuk, Northway, Tanacross, Eagle and Holy Cross were all impacted by the fires.
Another major activity for Doyon this summer is the continued transport of Doyon Drilling’s Rig 26 across the border from Canada. Nicknamed The Beast, Rig 26 is the largest mobile land rig in North America, and is 1.5 to 2 times as powerful as existing rigs. The rig is coming across the border, via the Alaska Highway, up the Dalton to Deadhorse in over 270 truckloads.
Doyon Drilling, Inc. operates on the North Slope of Alaska with eight of the most unique oil and gas land drilling rigs specially designed to drill oil wells in extreme conditions. If shareholders are interested in working at Doyon Drilling, Doyon is currently recruiting for our roustabout training program. In partnership with Tanana Chiefs Conference, Doyon offers the roustabout training for shareholders with an interest in oil and gas careers, but who have no prior experience working on an oil rig. This competitive program is free to participants, but you must apply before September 3.
You can find more information about the roustabout training program in this newsletter, along with more opportunities for shareholders, including information about our corporate donations, our internship program, and the Doyon Leadership Training program. We hope you find many ways to engage with Doyon as we get ready for our children to head back to school.
In closing, I’d like to invite those of you in the Anchorage or Mat-Su area to join us at our back-to-school event in Wasilla on August 21.
