Enrollment

Are you the child of a Doyon shareholder but haven’t enrolled yet? Find out if you are eligible to become a Class C shareholder.

Doyon welcomes the children of shareholders as part of our Class C shareholder community. To get started on enrollment, first answer these three questions to be sure you’re eligible:

  1. Are you the child of an original Doyon Class A, B, C or D shareholder? By original, we mean shareholders who received their shares directly from Doyon, not through gift or inheritance.
  2. Are you one-quarter Alaska Native blood quantum or more? Blood quantum is the amount of Alaska Native blood you possess, based on the number of generations of Alaska Native people from whom you descend.
  3. Were you born after December 18, 1971?

If you answered yes to all three questions, you’re ready to get started with these simple steps.

  1. Download and complete the Class C Enrollment Application.
  2. If you were adopted, please also download and complete the Adoption Form .

Before you submit your Class C application, please be sure that …

  1. Each Class C application is complete, signed and dated
  2. The original birth certificate is included
  3. You’ve provided additional documents, as required, to prove eligibility (see below)

Additional documents that may be required to prove eligibility:

  1. Certificate Of Indian Blood (CIB): If biological parent(s) is Alaska Native, and not enrolled to Doyon, please provide that parent’s CIB.
  2. Adoption Form And Adoption Court Order: If you were adopted by one or both parents, please provide your adoption form and adoption court order. These documents must show the name(s) of your biological parent(s). If the court order does not show biological parents, please contact Doyon’s shareholder records department at 1-888-478-4755 ext. 2040.
  3. Proof Of Name Change: If your name is different than it appears on your birth certificate, please provide proof of your legal name change, such as a certified copy of your marriage or divorce certificate.
  4. Proof Of Custodianship: Provide a Court Order or Power of Attorney if the Class C shareholder has a custodian rather than a biological or adoptive parent
  5. Paternity Affidavit: Please provide a paternity affidavit if your father is not listed on your birth certificate.

Once you’ve completed the application and gathered all necessary documents, please mail them to:

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question or need help?

For help with enrollment, call Doyon’s shareholder records department at 1-888-478-4755 ext. 2040. In Fairbanks call 459-2040. Or email us at records@doyon.com.

When is the next shareholder dividend, and how much will it be?

Distributions are made in December of each year. The amount of the distribution will be based on the average net profits for the preceding five years.

Does Doyon have direct deposit for shareholder dividends?

Yes. Forms are available online or by coming into the shareholder records department office.

Can I sell my stock?

No, Doyon stock is restricted and cannot be sold, transferred or traded. Originally, the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) put these restrictions on Native corporation stock through 1991. After that time, unless shareholders of the corporation voted to lift the restrictions, they automatically continued. In 1989, 75 percent of the shareholders who responded to a survey said they wanted to continue the restrictions.

How long does it take for a deceased shareholder's stock to be reissued to next of kin?

If there are no problems with the estate, it takes approximately 120 days to determine a deceased shareholder’s heirs. Doyon typically takes approximately six months if any of the potential heirs object to the distribution of shares. All dividends are held until the stock is distributed to the proper heirs.

Are dividends taxable?

ANCSA allowed Native corporations to pay nonF-taxable distributions equal to the amount received in their original cash settlement. For Doyon, that amount is approximately $54 million. From 1989 to 1999, Doyon paid more than $54 million in non-taxable distributions to shareholders, making all future distributions taxable.
