Strengthening the Community Through Doyon General Fund
Doyon, Limited’s general fund supports nonprofit programs and services that align with the corporation’s mission statement: to enhance our position as a financially strong Native corporation, to promote the economic and social well-being of our shareholders, to strengthen our Native way of life, and to protect and enhance our land and resources.
Because strong corporate citizenship arises from healthy community partnerships, Doyon prioritizes giving in communities where it does business. Nonprofit organizations that support the well-being of Doyon shareholders are eligible to receive general fund support, as well as Alaska Native cultural programs that enhance the Native way of life in the Interior. Doyon distributed $576,202 to more than 150 recipients during the 2018 fiscal year.
Applicants are required to submit a completed application per specified guidelines, and an anonymous donations committee carefully evaluates each request on a monthly basis. Applicants should allow at least one month for consideration. Incomplete or last-minute applications are not considered. It is important to respect the committee’s decisions and understand that Doyon receives a high volume of applications year-round – far more than its budget allows.
Doyon offers a $1,000 award per academic year to each school in the region with a complete application. Village councils or tribes are also eligible for two separate $500 donations to use as needed per fiscal year, which runs October 1 – September 30, on a first-come, first-serve basis. These donations can be used for numerous types of events, largely for spring cleanup, Fourth of July, and other community-based activities. Note that Doyon’s Daaga’ Awards are separate from Doyon’s general fund donations.
