Forest Stewardship
Doyon has enrolled 374,000 acres in a Forest Stewardship plan. This ten-year plan reflects a long-term approach to land management—one that honors the deep interconnection between ecological health, wildlife, soil, water, and subsistence resources.
Through responsible stewardship, we work to ensure that our lands continue to thrive for the benefit of both current and future generations of Doyon shareholders.
reforestation
The Lands and Natural Resources Department is in the beginning stages of a reforestation project on Doyon lands near Manley Hot Springs. Over 30,000 white spruce seedlings will be planted across nearly 100 acres, focusing on areas that have recently experienced wildfire damage.
This initiative is designed to jumpstart the natural reforestation process, enabling thousands of trees to establish and thrive more quickly. By accelerating this process, the project will help stabilize soils and significantly reduce erosion, safeguarding the landscape. Additionally, it will contribute to carbon sequestration efforts, playing a role in mitigating the effects of climate change by capturing atmospheric carbon dioxide and storing it in the growing forest.
Beyond environmental benefits, this reforestation project will enhance biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. The newly planted trees will provide critical habitat for wildlife, supporting species that rely on forested areas for food, shelter, and breeding. The project also promotes long-term ecological balance, as thriving forests help improve water quality, regulate local climate conditions, and prevent the spread of invasive plant species.
Doyon’s reforestation efforts reflect the broader importance of responsibly managing natural resources, ensuring that these lands remain healthy, productive, and beautiful for future generations. This project is not just an investment in the environment; it is a reaffirmation of Doyon’s dedication to the land and its enduring legacy.
