Maria Johnsen, 92, passed to her lord and master on Thursday July 24th, 2025, surrounded by her loving friends and family. Born on a schooner, named Patterson, east of Barrow on the tides of the Beaufort Sea. Daughter of great pioneers Peter and Nellie Woods she was raised in Noatak, Alaska.

She began her journey traveling to many villages on gospel trips, as an evangelist, from Canada to Mexico, her mission as a prayer warrior was to share God’s love. She lived in Fairbanks and Anchorage with her family and dear friends.

She expressed her love in many ways, this includes being a host and contributor of KJNP, publisher of Wein Magazine, Prudhoe Bay Chef, and devout member of Friends Church.

She is reunited now with her mother, Nellie and father Peter Woods, husband Edward Johnsen, sisters Mary Arey and Melba Collins, her beloved son Harry Glenn and her grandchildren, Harry, Victoria (Bunnik), Georgia, Georgianne, and Kristina.

She is survived by her children Hannah Onalik, Sandra Peterson, Josie Perkins, Ed Johnsen, Teresa Williams, Stephanie Whitmore, and Cynthia Johnsen.

Grandchildren: George, Philip, George Jr., Justen, Betsy, Frankie, Kelly, Carmel, Chase, Edward Lee, Rachel, Forrest, Kai, Corrie Lynn, Malakai, Faith, Hope, Sarah, Emily, Kyle, Anthony

Many family members throughout Alaska and the Nana region, too many to list, they were Always in her prayers. She always expressed her love of God through scriptures, song and prayer.
