Nancy Thomas Evan Holman passed away at the age of 95 of natural causes surrounded by family in Anchorage, Alaska on January 7, 2015. Nancy was born in Wood River, Alaska near Nenana, on September 8, 1919.
Nancy was a single mother for most of her life. She raised her children in as loving way as she could for the times. She worked hard moving the family in and out of floods. Making sure that the family lived in a clean home. She washed clothes by hand and made bread every week. When she could, she would make cinnamon rolls and pies. Nancy brought in income by taking in laundry, ironing, and mending clothes. Being a modern woman, in her 60’s, she took a job assembling telephones. She was proud that 100% of the phones she assembled worked and she was the top producer in her area.
Nancy was very creative and could create the most satisfying meals with just the bare necessities. She could knit and crochet, work she learned by unraveling old socks and sweaters. She used the unraveled socks for thread when traveling. She had to travel light when going by dog team or walking. She could sew fur and do beadwork. She could copy clothes and made recreations from worn out clothes, jackets, and any usable material that caught her eye.
Nancy was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother during her lifetime. She was a people person and loved meeting people. She loved being around her family and friends. She collected coffee cups and especially Alaska themed cups. She was fun loving with a mischief sparkle in her eyes. She never drove, but enjoyed riding shotgun, with anybody ready to drive to an adventure.
Nancy is survived by her children, Judith Butler, Patricia Buckingham (deceased), Virginia Charlie, Dian Million, Matthew Evan Jr, Dinah Burk,
Millie Nollner, Dale Evan Sr (deceased), Edna Silva, and Rexanne Wheeler. Sister, Anne Golden (deceased).
Nancy is preceded in death by her significant others, Fritz Noble, Rex Holman, and Matthew Evan, Sr. Children, Irvin Evan, Thomas Evan, and Karen Holman. Parents, Abbie Silas (Daughter of Chief Thomas of Nenana and Eva) and Noah Albert (Son of Belle from Susitna), brother, Thomas Albert and several more siblings that passed from the tuberculosis and flu epidemics occurring in the early 1900’s.
