Our Values
Doyon’s Lands and Natural Resources Department is responsible for the protection, management, and use of Doyon lands. This work ensures that our lands continue to provide cultural, economic, and community value — for current and future generations of shareholders.
We manage these lands with a long-term view, prioritizing sustainability, responsible development, and shareholder benefit. Our focus includes supporting local uses, creating educational and employment opportunities, and guiding resource development in a way that reflects our values.
This approach is grounded in the principles that guided the original land selections: respect, responsibility, and a vision for the future — balancing cultural responsibility with economic opportunity.
Responsible Development
We pursue resource development opportunities that reflect Doyon’s values — prioritizing environmental responsibility, cultural respect, and economic benefit for shareholders.
Stewardship
We manage land use, oversee material sites, develop wildfire mitigation strategies, and protect cultural and historical areas through strong policies and active oversight.
Shareholder benefits
We support land-based projects that create meaningful opportunities for shareholders and villages and bring long-term value to the Doyon Region.
Community Engagement
We work directly with shareholders, landowners, village corporations, tribal organizations, and other agencies to ensure that local voices and priorities shape how land is accessed, protected, and developed.
Shareholder benefits
We promote continued access for shareholders, honoring traditional uses of the land and ensuring future generations can benefit as those before them did.
Our History
Our Leaders are Our Neighbors
Our History
The River ran through the lives of our grandparents; it runs through our lives; it will run through the lives of our grandchildren. A dynamic force masked by a static constancy, the River will speak to those who listen—our land speaks.
Doyon values its relationship to the Place of our people: to our land, our culture, our way of life. We value our Place as the historical successor to our grandparents’ ownership and stewardship of our land; as the fiduciary for our shareholders; as the trustee for our grandchildren’s inheritance. We are intimately, subtly and profoundly connected to our Place—our corporate values flow from this sense of Place.
Mission
To continually enhance our position as a financially strong Native corporation in order to promote the economic and social well-being of our shareholders and future shareholders, to strengthen our Native way of life, and to protect and enhance our land and resources.
