Doyon, Limited is committed to the ongoing development of cultural and economic benefits on behalf of its shareholders and has been working to responsibly explore and develop natural resources. The Yukon Flats project has the potential to create jobs for generations of shareholders and will work to support the region and state’s economy in the long term.

Exploration and History: Exploration began in 2020, after an agreement was signed in 2019, covering 1.6 million acres of land, with the aim of understanding the region’s potential for providing long-term economic benefits to local communities. Of that initial exploration area, roughly only three percent (or less than 60,000 acres) was selected by Hilcorp for continued exploration in 2024. Hilcorp’s expectation is to confine 2025 activity to a focused area in Birch Creek, currently less than five acres total across two project sites and a staging location – roughly the size of a few football fields.

Economic Benefits: This project is focused on maximizing job and contracting opportunities for locals in nearby communities, helping to foster economic and community development beyond resource extraction. The project has the potential to increase the Upper Yukon’s employment base by 15 percent and provide our communities with the economic empowerment to support our schools, health care, infrastructure, and more—and provide us with financial support to ensure that our culture aligns with the long-term goals of our communities.

Community Engagement: Doyon is committed to communication and engagement with the community throughout this project.  Doyon is actively working to ensure that locals in Birch Creek and throughout the Yukon Flats are informed throughout the process. Project developments and plans will be shared by Hilcorp as appropriate.

Exploration Process: Doyon and Hilcorp are dedicated to ensuring the project is both environmentally responsible and economically beneficial. Doyon’s support for the Yukon Flats project exemplifies the Corporation’s long-term strategy to balance development with sustainability and community, economic, and shareholder well-being.

Information on barge and other Updates: Hilcorp anticipates the planning and engineering phase will be active until late winter or early spring 2025 and will provide further updates as appropriate. Overwinter 2024-2025, Hilcorp is intentionally anchoring a barge in a position of Birch Creek with low current and an even bottom. With the barge landing in close proximity to the project sites, this will enable operational efficiency in spring 2025 and beyond.
