Doyon welcomed Fairweather, LLC to the Doyon Family of Companies in 2023. Established in 1976, Fairweather has a long history of providing vital aviation weather observation services in remote Alaskan regions. Over time, the company has expanded its operations to include highly sought-after support services designed to aid oil & gas exploration and production activities.
Rick Fox, Fairweather President, reports, “We see lots of opportunities now and we are looking at more growth ahead.”
Fairweather’s Drilling Engineering and Program Management teams have seen recent notable successes, including completion of development drilling, such as for 88 Energy’s discovery well, as well as a production well for Glacier.
Fairweather renewed its contract with ConocoPhillips for the Mud Plant and is supporting the plant expansion for Willow. Fairweather’s Medical Team has been actively providing healthcare and vaccination services across Alaska, especially in remote communities. The State of Alaska continues to rely on the Fairweather team to reach underserved regions, and their essential work has resulted in contract renewals.
Another area of significant growth is within Fairweather’s Regulatory Group. This team has expanded its services to include offshore environmental compliance management, supporting oil & gas exploration and mining companies across Alaska. Fairweather Science is engaged in creating FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plans for communities spanning from Alaska to Rhode Island, as well as supporting marine projects with Protected Species Observers and mitigation plans.
Fairweather’s contingent workforce has grown to over 120 workers, supporting major oil and gas companies, reflecting the increasing demand for skilled labor in the industry. Their Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Team has developed specific safety and compliance systems for various clients across the oil and gas sector, while also providing training and support for safety.
The Deadhorse Aviation Center has seen its highest rate of utilization since 2012, with Deadhorse Aviation Center East also experiencing significant demand. This winter, the U.S. Navy Arctic Submarine Lab is again expected to make use of the facility, highlighting Deadhorse Aviation Center’s role as a critical hub for North Slope operations. Both aviation centers continue to set the standard for quality facilities and service.
Since joining the Doyon Family of Companies, Fairweather has experienced continued growth. The company’s team has grown to 270 employees, including nine Doyon shareholder employees.
