Kantishna Roadhouse, owned and operated by Doyon, Limited, is cultivating their fame from being featured in Time magazine’s “The World’s Greatest Places of 2024” and doubling down on their sustainability initiatives that led to the feature by releasing their 2024 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report.

After the 2021 Pretty Rocks landslide cut off half of the main road leading into Denali National Park, Kantishna Roadhouse and several of the park’s other beloved backcountry lodges were forced to pivot or face hard times. As the only Indigenous-owned and operated lodge in the park, Kantishna Roadhouse did just that, moving the entire 33-cabin roadhouse into a fly-in-only model for visitors.

As Terry Ward of Time magazine wrote, “The silver lining: the shutdown has made the experience of being in Denali even more special thanks to drastically reduced visitor numbers in remote reaches of the park.” Coupled with Kantishna’s initiative to keep guests connected to the experience without cell phone or web services, as well as their consistent policy of sourcing as much local food as possible, this all creates a truly unforgettable retreat into one of the world’s greatest places.

Kantishna Roadhouse is now sharing how these recent business innovations and longstanding practices are impacting their environmental, social, and governance outcomes.
