Ramy Brooks is the son of Roxy Wright and the late Mike Brooks, both of Fairbanks. His maternal grandparents are the late Vera Strack of Fort Yukon and the late Gareth Wright of Nenana/Minto and Miranda Wright of Nulato, and his paternal grandparents are the late Ray and Glenna Brooks of Fairbanks.
An accomplished artist and jeweler, Ramy’s work is deeply connected to his Alaska Native heritage. Each piece he creates tells a story, combining aspects of his culture and traditions. Through his storytelling, Ramy also brings awareness to important aspects of Alaska Native life, addressing topics such as fishing rights, traditional practices, and the ongoing Missing and Murdered Indigenous People crisis.
“If we can’t fish, I can’t pass the knowledge on through doing — you can only talk about it,” he says, emphasizing the importance of hands-on learning in preserving tradition.
He works hard to create a quality product and represent his culture and stories with respect. He cares deeply about passing his heritage and knowledge on to future generations. Alongside his wife Cathy, Ramy runs Write22, where they continue to share their stories and advocate for the cultural values that matter most to them.
